Message Don't ever pay someone to crack a vg30dett for a quick fix. Just the price of parts and labor on the quick fix is going to equal the good used engine price and then you have to worry about the halfass fix and reassembly causing you even worse problems.

If you are pulling the motor and heads yourself, it's an option. Once the heads are off, you might as well get them freshened up a bit. I'd consider this a better option than trying to slap on used heads.

1. if you do the non-machine shop labor yourself, and are confident you can do it right the first time, sure. Get the heads freshened up (cleaned, valves pressure tested, check lifters, etc etc etc)
2. not a great idea unless yours end up having worse problems than you think (warped, heads damaged from bent valve)
3. definitely the least painful way out. If you can get one from a running wreck that is your best bet. can verify compression, oil pressure, etc. If you go the jdm importer route, its easy and hassle free finding one in most cities, but the quality is a bit more of a crapshoot. you HAVE to complete the job within the return window. 60k, swap oil pans, etc etc etc.

Putting AMS garbage, and $500 ebay wheels on a Z is like
dressing a Victorias Secret model in a Walmart dress and
Payless shoes. You're embarrassing yourself.
